The Dichotomy of Man

Got some good lifts in so far this week. Did deadlifts, rows, and pullups yesterday. I stopped doing using alternate grip on my deadlifts. I’m just going to use the hang grip and focus on getting better form at lower weights. I started getting awful blisters from doing 10 sets of deadlifts twice a week and also pushing as far as a single using alternate grip. My hands were all ripped up. It’s a much better forearm and grip workout when I just use the hang grips and don’t worry about getting past 3 plates. Tonight I’ll be doing squats, overhead press, bench press, dips, and pushups.

I’m able to bench press 185 now pretty easily. I’m optimistic I can get to 225 before the year is over. I’m consistently weighing in at around 170 now. That seems like a good winter weight for me. I’m sure I’ll lose a couple pounds during the summer because it’ll be much hotter when I run. Haven’t gone for a run yet this week. With all the snow on the ground it’s pretty much impossible. I’ll get back to running once the snow clears up and there’s enough space on the sidewalk/road to run. I thought about going for a run on the treadmill at the gym but something about that feels gross. Especially having to wear a mask while I run. I’ll just focus on lifting now until the snow clears out.

The snow was something else. I feel like it’s been a couple winters since we’ve had a real big snow storm like that. Couldn’t help feeling like a waste of space when I looked outside of my apartment and saw an older woman shoveling off her stairs/walkway. If 28 year old men are good for anything it should be to do that. Drank a big cup of coffee at the end of my workday and shoveled out the path and the stairways for my little apartment complex. I couldn’t get to the gym on Monday so it filled in for a good workout also. Got my one neighbor to help me out. “This is what being a man is about” I said to him “Nobody asked you to do it and you’re not getting anything in return but you just go ahead and help out.” I know it was a bit melodramatic but it felt great.

I think young men have a desire buried deep within us to help people out and perform some sort of manual labor. I don’t get tired when I’m shoveling. I’m incapable of keeping stuff clean within my apartment, however. The last time I had friends over I went to the bathroom after they all left. I noticed a lot of things that I hadn’t before. There’s hair all over my bathroom and the state of my terlet was horrid. I was a little embarrassed. This is what I need help with. There could be 3 feet of snow on the ground and I would stay out there until the entire driveway and sidewalk were clean. At the same time there has been dust accumulating under my computer desk for roughly 2 months and I have no plans on changing this. The dichotomy of man.
