New Lady
There’s a new lady at my office. This is her 2nd or 3rd month. She’s incredibly bubbly. Sometimes it picks at my nerves. She sneaks up behind me and half-whispers my name and starts a conversation with me. She usually wants to talk about the bachelor or some other brainless tv show.
She embraces it though. She doesn’t act like it’s anything more or less than what it is. I try my best to humor her and sometimes it’s a pretty fun conversation. Other times I’m not so accommodating. I give her short replies and and shorten my laughs. I’m usually in the middle of doing some task at work when I’m less accommodating. She’s not in the office today because there was supposed to be snow today. There wasn’t any snow. It’s just me and this other guy in the office today so it is very quiet.
I just walked by her desk to look out the window at the (lack of) snow. She has a picture of her son on her desk. He’s in the Navy. Pretty fucking badass. I was smoking weed and making sandwiches at the deli when I was his age. It’s important to get humbled like that every once in a while. Next time when she comes to chat maybe I’ll ask her about her son. I’m sure she’d love to talk about that. I’ll probably go back to being snarky every so often because I’m a human. Forgive yourself when you’re less than perfect because that’s not going to change.
Bitcoin’s been going absolutely bonkers. Elon Musk announced that they were adding it to the Tesla balance sheet. Price immediately pumped out a nice green candle for Monday. My Robinhood account jumped up more than my yearly salary yesterday (Monday 2/8). Pretty wild. If the rest of this year goes as expected I may not need a job anymore.
But what am I going to do? I would need something to do everyday. I would probably just keep my job even if my net worth skyrocketed. Life would be so boring otherwise. I’d love to find myself in a line of employment where I could make my own schedule. Potentially work like 4-5 hours per day. Maybe get into freelance digital advertising. I think I could be pretty good at that. Take on clients and run their search and social campaigns for them. Something to think about.
I love coaching basketball. If I could find a way to turn that into a full time profession I’d do it in a heartbeat. Sometimes I contemplate getting a Masters in Economics from Mises.org. Maybe I could become a high school Economics teacher and coach the basketball team. That’d be so awesome.
My 8th graders are 3-1. Currently we’re in second place in our league to a team representing two towns combined. The first game of the season we played really well but the second and the third game we could have played better. The fourth game we played better and won by 5. We have to learn to close out games a little better. We have two practices this week and then a game on Friday. The team we’re playing on Friday is close to the bottom of the standings but they beat the team we lost to so it’s not a given that we win. We’re going to have to play well.
